Sony ERS-220A AIBO Entertainment Robot
AIBO is Sony's entertainment robot. The name AIBO is derived form the words "A.I." (artificial intelligence), and roBOt. Also, in Japanese, "aibo" means "companion" or "pal". Futuristic design ERS-220A has a total of 16 motors that enables it to walk, play soccer, sit, lie down, and right itself. ERS-220A can also use its eyes, ears, 21 lights wrapping around its head, and a retractable head light to express a wide variety of emotions (happiness, sadness, fear, dislike, surprise, anger) and instincts (play, search, hunger, sleep) and to entertain you. With its hearing, communication abilities, and touch sensors, AIBO is able to interact in a variety of autonomous ways and also perform very useful tasks. ERS-220A also has Wireless LAN capability and you can remote control it from a distance (depending on the separately available AIBOware).

Aibo Explorer: Another fully-grown autonomous software. AIBO understands 75 words and is able to communicate verbally. AIBO plays with its favorite ball and takes pictures which you can view on your PC (requires Memory Stick viewer). Explorer is the most independent AIBO software.
AIBO Life 2: Witness the "birth" of AIBO when you first boot up this software! This autonomous software allows you to raise AIBO from a baby to an adult. AIBO's personality development depends upon your interaction with it! AIBO gradually learns new voice commands as it grows (total vocabulary is 75 words). AIBO plays with its favorite pink ball and takes pictures which you can view on your PC (requires Memory Stick viewer).
AIBO Navigator 2: This PC-based software allows you to control and navigate AIBO via a wireless LAN connection (IEEE802.11b) from a computer. An improved graphic interface enhances the experience of virtually controlling a robot. When AIBO ventures out, it sends back images and sounds to your computer in real-time. If you see something you like, you can capture a digital still. You also have the ability to send a message or a sound back to AIBO.
AIBO Treats (Free): AIBO Treats are also available on-line. This free, downloadable software (AIBO Programming Memory Stick is required to save program) offers extremely entertaining mini applications such as romantic fortune-telling, animal imitations, and much more!
